  2. Vary things up. Use different “styles” of subject lines, or people will start to filter out your emails.
  3. Experiment with lowercase and upper case. Sometimes writing in all lowercase is actually more attention catching, especially when everyone else is writing in sentence case.
  4. Don’t underestimate short subject lines. A simple “check this out” could get more opens than “My Simple System for Earning a Six Figure Income.”
  5. Put yourself in your audience’s shoes. What are their deepest desires? Address those desires in your subject line.
  6. Visualize someone in your market waking up in the middle of the night, smacking their forehead, saying “Gosh, I just wish ______________.” Fill in the blank. Use that as the basis for a subject line.
  7. Use numbers and symbols. They catch attention more than text. But use it sparingly, so it doesn’t look like spam.
  8. Write when you’re inspired. If you come up with a subject line spontaneously, chances are it’s a good one.
  9. Browse Twitter for ideas. Writing for Twitter is similar to writing headlines, as they have similar space constraints. See what other marketers are tweeting in your industry.
  10. Split test. Different kinds of headlines work better in different markets. Split testing not only gives you results, but teaches you about your market.

Aweber & GetResponse SlideUp Optin Form for Listbuilding


The Aweber and GetResponse SlideUp plugin allows you to create a footer bar with either an Aweber or GetResponse optin form in it. It will “slide up” from the bottom and stay there, prompting users to sign up and improve your listbuilding efforts.


Because the controls are essentially the same, with Aweber’s having just a couple more options, we’ll just demonstrate the Aweber SlideUp here. The GetResponse SlideUp works the same way.


Step 1: Install the Plugin

Go to your Plugins tab and do a search for “slideup.” Install either the Aweber or GetResponse plugin, depending on which service you use.

Activate the plugin once it’s installed.

Step 2: Access the Plugin Settings

Scroll down on the left to the Settings tab. Click the drop down arrow and go to the plugin’s settings.

Step 3: Insert Hidden HTML Code

Copy and paste your Aweber or GetResponse form code into a text editor file. Make sure you don’t use Microsoft Word or any word processing program, but a text editor program that doesn’t add formatting.

Look for the code with the input type “hidden.” It should be right below the <form> code and above the rest of the code. This is the code that the SlideUp program needs to generate their own opt in box.

Copy this code to your clipboard.



Then paste the code in the plugin settings’ “Hidden Aweber Form Fields” box.


Step 4: Additional Options

The plugin gives you a few more options to customize the look and feel of the SlideUp.

Here’s what each of these forms do

Heading Tag Line: Puts a line of text directly above the email optin box.

Tracking Image URL: If you have a tracking pixel to track your optin rates, put it in this box.

Header Image URL: This places an image to the left hand side of your slideup. It’s a good place for a logo of some sort. Make sure it’s not more than 35 pixels high.

Step 5: Save and Preview

Save your settings and reload your blog. You’ll see a footer optin bar slide up along the bottom.

It’ll look something like this:

Free WordPress Autoresponder

Did you know that instead of using an outside autoresponder, you can run it all from your own server? Using the Free WordPress Autoresponder, you can place subscribe boxes, add leads, schedule emails and send email blasts.

Here’s how to download, install and configure Free WordPress Autoresponder.

Step 1: Download and Activate the Plugin

To download Free WordPress Autoresponder, go to:

Scroll down to the bottom and enter your contact information.



Check your email and click on the confirmation link. Go to the members area.


Scroll past all the sales and promotional material until you reach the download link.

Once you have the .zip file, upload it to WordPress and activate the plugin as usual.

Step 2: Setup Your Options

Scroll down on the WP Admin panel to access Free WordPress Autoresponder’s settings.


Go to Setup to setup your unsubscribe messages, footers and other basic options.

Step 3: Add Fly-In HTML (Optional)

If you want to have a hover-over style of opt-in box, do it in the Fly-In HTML box tab.


Start by customizing your fly-in box to look however you want. By default it edits in WYSIWYG, but if you want to edit in HTML just select “Plain Text” from the drop down box.

Once you’re ready, click “Test Fly In Display” to make sure the fly-in look show you want it to.

Then click the “Activate” button and hit submit. Anyone who’s coming to your site for the first time will see the fly-in opt in box.

Step 4: Add Normal Opt-In Box

To add an opt in box anywhere else on your site, use the Form HTML tab.

Again, start by editing the opt in box in WYSIWYG. Once it looks the way you want it to, change the display option to “Plain Text” and paste the HTML anywhere on the blog.


Here’s the “Plain Text” view:


Alternatively, you can also just drag and drop a Widget from your Widgets tab into any sidebar. This works just like any other Widget.


Step 5: Add Autoresponder Messages

Now that you have your basic setup complete, it’s time to add some messages to your autoresponder.

Go to the messages tab to get started.


Click on Add New Message.


Enter in your first autoresponder subject.


Click Add Message when you’re finished. Repeat the process for each email you want in your autoresponder.

Step 6: Send a Message Blast (Optional)

Want to email your entire list? You can do so from the Send Message tab.

Just specify which parts of your list should receive your message, enter your message and hit send.

Step 7: Manage Your List

To import contacts, export contacts or manually delete contacts, just got to the leads tab.


Then click “Delete Checked,” “Add Leads,” or “Export Leads” to do just that.

If there’s one thing that makes it easier for you to grow your list quickly, it’s to give away something valuable in return for the opt-in.

  1.  A free PDF. Give them a report on something or a brief guide on something.
  2. An audio content download. A lotof people prefer to listen to audio in their cars or on their lunch break, instead of read.
  3. A video download. Videos have higher perceived value than audio.
  4.  A coupon or discount code. This is perceived as almost as good as cash, especially if they plan on buying.
  5.  Free membership. Especially if the membership is normally paid.

If you’re a fan of HTML or graphical emails, Constant Contact can be great choice as an email marketing tool. Again, they’re geared primarily for marketers who have lists in the hundreds, thousands or low to mid tens of thousands.

Tool #5: InfusionSoft

InfusionSoft is the tool of choice for serious marketers. If you run a six figure online business or have a list larger 50,000 subscribers, this may be the tool for you. InfusionSoft combines your shopping cart with email marketing, so you can do complex things like segregate your buyers from your subscribers or mail specific sequences to specific people. You can also send physical postcards from InfusionSoft. InfusionSoft isn’t cheap. The monthly subscription is in the hundreds, and there’s a four figure setup fee. It’s geared towards companies that are already successful and need powerful solutions, rather than startups.

Tool #6: GetResponse

GetResponse is a solid autoresponder choice for small businesses. It’s also geared primarily towards list sizes of mid tens of thousands or fewer. They have a strong reputation in the industry and offer a wide variety of features.

Tool #7: 1ShoppingCart

If you want to integrate your email with your shopping cart but don’t quite want to spring for InfusionSoft, 1ShoppingCart could be your answer. 1ShoppingCart is a one stop solution for payment processing and email marketing. It allows you to segregate lists and mail only buyers or your entire list. It’s one of the more reputable shopping cart services on the net.

Be warned however, their deliverability rates simply aren’t as high as a dedicated email marketing service. You save time and money by just having one shopping cart rather than a shopping cart and an autoresponder, but it’s not without tradeoffs.

Tool #8: Autoresponse Plus (ARP Reach)

Autoresponse Plus, also known as ARP Reach, is the autoresponder of choice for doing co-registration. You can certainly use the software to do standard email marketing as well. However, if you’re buying leads and need those fresh leads to be mailed instantly, Autoresponse Plus has one of the most solid reputations in the industry.

Tool #9: Campaign Monitor

Campaign Monitor is email marketing built for the data driven business. All your data, including open rates and clicks, can be tracked using a Google Analytics-like interface.

Give Potential Customers a Preview of Your Product

Building customer interest and excitement is the first step to successfully marketing many products.

Autoresponders play a vital role in building this interest and excitement. For instance, if you were developing an ebook, you may want to start telling your website visitors and opt-in subscribers about it. Start building interest; tell them what this product will do for them, and how soon it will be available.

Do more than build interest by telling them about it. Use an autoresponder to let them preview your product! Even though you will be selling the product, you can allow your potential customers to preview the information. Have you ever seen previews for movies that will be playing in theaters soon? It is the same concept.

Load one chapter of the ebook into an autoresponder, and put a form on your website where your visitors can enter their name and email address to receive the preview chapter free of charge. This gets their name on your list of potential customer. Each week, send a reminder email, letting them know how close the release date is, and what they can expect from your product – keep building interest and excitement.

An autoresponder can be set up to send out a series of lessons for an email course. The lessons can be set for distribution at specific intervals. You determine how often the lessons for the course are sent to the people who have signed up for it. Email courses are very different from traditional courses, web based courses, or any other type of course.

There is no student and instructor interaction. The instructor writes the information out, puts each lesson in an autoresponder series, sets the timing for the lessons, and the rest is automated. You can opt to have lessons delivered daily, every other day, every three days, or any other time frame that you think works best for your email students.

Email courses are commonly used to sell products and services.

For instance, if you sell widgets, you might develop a course that teaches people how to use widgets or how to care for their widget. Experts agree that an email course can be written for almost any product that you can imagine – if you put enough thought into it.

Start by determining what your course will be about, and how long it should be. If the course should be delivered every other day for two weeks, you know that you would need seven lessons. This means that the first lesson would be delivered one day after the person has requested the course, and the second lesson would be delivered three days after the person has requested the course, and so on. You want the lessons to look and sound as professional as possible.

Next, simply advertise the email address that will activate the autoresponder. Make sure that you run a test first, sending each lesson to yourself. This will allow you to see what your email students will see when they sign up!

Writing articles to market a product or service is an excellent way to build business.

The articles should be very informative, providing the reader with information that is relevant to a specific topic. The article usually includes a link to a webpage for more information. The webpage, of course, is designed to sell a product or service that relates to the topic of the article.

These articles are commonly submitted to article banks, websites, and ezine publishers. This is one of the most effective ways to market a service or product on the Internet, and it can become even more effective when it is combined with the use of an autoresponder.

Begin by setting each of your articles up in your autoresponder. It is important that each article have its very own autoresponder address, so you will need an autoresponder service that will allow you to do this. Next, make a master list of your articles, with the autoresponder address for each article listed beside the title.

You can even add descriptions of the articles on your master list if you want to.

Advertising your articles one at a time can take a great deal of time…but advertising one autoresponder address – the one for the master list – won’t take very much time at all.
